About

My name is Jason Swails, and I am a Ph.D. graduate from the University of Florida. I currently work in Professor David Case's group at Rutgers University in New Jersey as a postdoctoral researcher.

The majority of the material on this site comes from experience I've gained via a number of pathways:

  • man pages (especially for git and other Unix tools)
  • Manuals and official online documentation
  • Looking through the source code
  • Google
  • Mailing lists

I put this Wiki together for a couple reasons. First, it's a good reference for me, since it's organized in a way that I think makes sense. Second, I want to think it's helpful to others. Rather than give the same help multiple times, I can just point people to the relevant page on the Wiki. As a result, I try and make the explanations thorough and detailed, probably to a fault.

For those interested, a copy of my Curriculum Vitae is available here

A copy of my dissertation, with a few small revisions, is available here.
